Welcome to 2nd grade! This week we will build our classroom community through team-building activities, role-playing, and most importantly, practice, practice, practice.

The following expectations will be practiced with hand gestures. Students will model the appropriate and inappropriate responses to different scenarios such as how to ask for permission to leave the room, line order, asking a question, pencil sharpening, etc.

Our classroom expectations are:

Our five expectations are:

  1. Follow directions quickly.

  2. Raise your hand for permission to speak.

  3. Raise your hand to leave your seat.

  4. Make smart choices.

  5. Have fun learning and keep your dear teacher happy. Happy class, happy teacher! Happy teacher, happy class!

Students will learn about the following classroom management systems in place:

Several positive rewards are used daily within the classroom. As a few examples, we use stickers, stamps, verbal praise, class parties, and coupons to reward students who are following expectations.

Students have the opportunity to earn coupons while displaying excellent behavior. Examples are: following expectations, staying on task, being honest, being a good friend, being helpful, and earning a compliment from another teacher or substitute.

I conference with students who are not meeting expectations and remind them of classroom and school-wide expectations. I will notify parents about any recurring behaviors and develop individual behavior plans as necessary.

Happy Learning!
